THE MANAGER

THE MANAGER examines relationships in the modern workplace, with a focus on the role of managers. Observations of nine to twelve managers in performance interviews forms the basis for the story. The unequal power relationship between managers and their staff often leads to compelling role-playing. In these, both parties play roles more or less skilfully. Not infrequently, the conversations are rigid; following mutually adopted rules and conventions from which there is no escape. Most things are said between the lines.
